Security Giants Renewed Subscriptions without Permission

According to PC Pro, the security giants, McAfee and Symantec have paid $375,000 USD in fines levied when they allegedly automatically renewed subscriptions without their customers’ consent.

Apparently, McAfee and Symantec had both hidden renewal clauses in their customers’ contracts. However, the details of the automatic renewal provisions were not disclosed to the customers.

SQL Injection wipes out 100,000 sites

“Webhost hack wipes out data for 100,000 sites”

Likely the result of an SQL Injection attack, data for more than 100,000 sites hosted on the HyperVM virtualization platform were deleted. Over 24 hours later, administrators at Vaserv.com were still working to recover from the issue.
